Water use efficiency in Western Australian cropping systems

چکیده

Rotations and associated management practices in rainfed farming systems of southwest Australia have shifted towards intensified cropping. Survey data from 184 fields spanning 14 Mha were used to document water use efficiency (WUE) water-limited yield potential (WLYP) commercial crops crop sequences identify biophysical variables influencing WUE. WUE achieved wheat was 10.7 kg grain/ha.mm. Using a boundary function Ywl = 25 × (WU − 45), farmers 54% WLYP. Climate affected more than biotic variates, the highest latitude region having 9.0 grain/ha.mm, compared 11.8 grain/ha.mm for regions further south. Increased soil nitrogen fertiliser increased WUE, as did sowing earlier; keeping with southern earlier trebling usage since 1990. Wheat small amount after break or pasture (12.5 grain/ha.mm) grown (11.2 grain/ha.mm), due good weed root pathogen control, high application. However, declined 8.4 when three succession. Farmers continue improve inputs new technologies replacing some traditional functions pasture. pastures are still required within rotation maintain effects need be measured over several years.

Impacts and Adaptation to Climate Change in Western Australian Wheat Cropping Systems

The environment in which crops will be grown in the future will change. Temperatures and CO2 concentrations [CO2] will increase. Also a decline in winter rainfall of up to 30% in 2070 is predicted for south-west Australia. Effects of climate change on cropping systems were simulated with the Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM-Nwheat) using transformed historic weather data. Fifty ...

Cultivar Mixture Cropping Increased Water Use Efficiency in Winter Wheat under Limited Irrigation Conditions

The effects of cultivar mixture cropping on yield, biomass, and water use efficiency (WUE) in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were investigated under non-irrigation (W0, no irrigation during growth stage), one time irrigation (W1, irrigation applied at stem elongation) and two times irrigation (W2, irrigation applied at stem elongation and anthesis) conditions. Nearly 90% of cultivar mixtur...

How energy and water availability constrain vegetation water-use along the North Australian Tropical Transect

Energy and water availability were identified as the first order controls of evapotranspiration(ET) in ecohyrodrology. With a ~1,000 km precipitation gradient and distinct wet-dry climate, the North Australian Tropical Transect (NATT) was well suited for evaluating how energy andwater availabilities constrain water use by vegetation, but has not been done yet. In this study,we addressed this que...

interaction of nutrient resource and crop diversity on resource use efficiency in different cropping systems

introduction with the continuous growth of world population, degradation and ecological imbalance throughout the world, there is a need to increase agricultural production and environmental protection measures. in this respect, efforts to supply nutrients to the environment are at the head of the programs. one of the ways to approach this goal is the use of intercropping systems (najafi & moham...
